August Community Day
August 3, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am
Community Day is an opportunity to volunteer, get your hands in the dirt, learn something about gardening, socialize with your fellow gardeners, and, most importantly, have fun with us at the AUCG!
Everyone is welcome, so bring friends and family. There will be light breakfast and coffee available, as well as ice water and all gardening tools.
Please bring a water bottle or cup, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a pair of gloves (we’ll have extra gloves for those who need them).
Schedule of events:
- 8am – We will start off the morning with some bagels and coffee, courtesy of the garden crew.
- 8-10am – Our “project” this month is going to be replanting our wildflower beds.
- 10-10:30am – We’ll be touring some of the garden plots, getting to know what other gardeners in our community are growing and how. If you’re interested in giving us a tour of your plot (either on Saturday or at a future Community Day), please let me know.
- 10:30am-12pm – Educational Talk: All About Melons! with Marley Halter. We’ll be discussing what types and varieties of melons grow well in Alabama, tips for growing them well, and how and when to harvest. Finally answer the question “how do I know when my melon is ripe?” with a watermelon and cantalope tasting.
Please email community.garden@auburn.edu with any questions.
